COSERE | 117 Analytical thinking When we talk about emotional intelligence as a cognitive process, we cannot go beyond the background without developing analytical skills. On the way of life, you will meet a particularly difficult object - “man”. This means that you will have to think very often about why, how, and for what people behave in this or that way. How to develop analytical skills? Accepting the laws of logic and applying them to reasoning are indeed fundamental to developing analytical skills. Logic provides a framework for structuring and evaluating arguments, which is essential for critical thinking and problem-solving. By understanding and adhering to logical principles, individuals can enhance their ability to analyse information, identify patterns, and draw sound conclusions. Needs and Wants Human behaviours can be directly equated with Maslow’s personality model. The beginning of the pyramid is related to basic, physiological needs and safety of life, and the next upper levels are aesthetic and spiritual desires. A person with emotional intelligence should be able to connect these or those behaviours with these steps and conclude what the true and main motive of the behaviours. We must also be able to distinguish needs from wants. How can we do this? Save the technique - “Why diagram?” For example, take any behaviours and ask why the person did it. As soon as we get to the answer, let’s ask more questions. Sooner or later, we will reach one of the levels of Maslow’s pyramid. And, not surprisingly, in most cases, with the basic one. Non-verbal communication Observing non-verbal behaviours is arguably the most reliable method for gauging a person’s emotional intelligence. Mastering this skill alone can significantly enhance our ability to establish effective communication with those around us How to develop this skill? To develop this skill, actively observe and study non-verbal behaviours in various contexts. Whether it’s with family members, bosses, subordinates, shop assistants, or others, honing your ability to read non-verbal cues can greatly enhance your emotional intelligence. Simply dedicating time to observation can be immensely beneficial.
