COSERE | 133 MODULE C: COACHING, SUPERVISION & MENTORING AS MAIN FORMS OF PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT The goal of the module is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively implement and engage in coaching, supervision, and mentoring practices within educational settings. Learning outcomes: After completing this module, participants will be able to: • Articulate the definitions and key characteristics of coaching, supervision, and mentoring, and explain their significance in professional development. • Distinguish the roles and functions of coaches, supervisors, and mentors, understanding how each contributes to individual and organizational growth. • Exhibit essential skills for effective coaching, supervision, and mentoring, including active listening, questioning techniques, providing constructive feedback, and facilitating goal setting. • Evaluate specific contexts and situations to determine the most appropriate form of professional support, recognizing when coaching, supervision, or mentoring is needed. • Develop and implement tailored coaching, supervision, and mentoring programs that address the unique needs of educators and promote a culture of continuous improvement. • Analyse the effectiveness of coaching, supervision, and mentoring practices, using feedback and assessment tools to measure impact on individual performance and overall organizational effectiveness. Target group School leadership and management teams (school leaders, deputy heads, subject group leaders, support staff, consultants and career counsellors). Outline The module consists of 3 units. In Unit 1, we will open a discussion about coaching opportunities and basics, in Unit 2, we will focus on key aspects of supervision as a tool for growth, and in Unit 3, we will outline aspects of mentoring as a collegial support form. Short theoretical inputs will be supplemented by exercises and a final test. Unit 1 lasts 90 minutes, Unit 2 lasts 90 minutes, and Unit 3 lasts 90 minutes. This teaching and learning material supports activities on the COSERE project e-learning platform and can be used by both trainers and trainees.
