90 | COSERE Acting: standardising the results that met your objectives. • Fully implement your solution. Keep in mind that the PDCA is a loop, not a process with a beginning and an end. Therefore, you may implement a new solution but keep asking for feedback over time to always make it better. The PDCA framework can be used to address many problems or challenges faced in a school institution. Bigger problems and challenges can be broken down into smaller steps to explore how to address each step with a specific focus. The PDCA process can be quite slow, so it is not a framework that is appropriate for addressing a problem that must be addressed urgently. The Collaborative Leadership 8D Model The eight discipline (8D) method is a thorough, team-oriented approach to problemsolving that concentrates on identifying the underlying cause of a problem and creating and carrying out a plan of action. Its focus on root cause analysis and teamwork sets it apart from other strategies. It was first introduced by the Ford company in the 80s and is now used in many different fields as a method for problem solving. It is based upon the premise that there are eight disciplines that should be used to address the problem. D1: Form your team of stakeholders responsible for solving the problem • Designate a skilled and experienced team leader who will oversee the problemsolving process and coordinate the team’s activities. • Involve the stakeholders of your school community who have an interest in the problem in the Problem-Solving Team. D2: Defining and describing the problem using data and facts • Together, the team defines the scope and the boundaries of the problem while ensuring that they are neither too broad nor too narrow. • The team collects and analyses data and facts gathered through surveying the whole community and other reliable sources (if applicable). • Use the 5W2H methodology to break your problem down into clear and quantifiable terms: ◊ Who? ◊ What is the problem about? ◊ When and how often? ◊ Where?
